As the busy summer months draw to a close and we transition into the slower pace of autumn, September offers a perfect opportunity to pause and reconnect with yourself. This month, The Teal Yogi invites you to join our September Meditation Challenge, centered around the theme: “Embrace Stillness.”

Stillness isn’t just the absence of movement or noise; it’s a state of being where we find clarity, calm, and a deeper connection with our inner selves. Through this challenge, we’ll explore the power of stillness both on and off the mat, using a simple yet profound self-guided meditation practice. To help you dive deeper into this journey, we’re also providing a downloadable journal page designed to guide your reflections throughout the month.

Why Embrace Stillness?:

In today’s fast-paced world, we often equate productivity with constant action. Yet, true productivity and well-being stem from moments of stillness—those quiet pauses where we can listen to our inner voice, reset our nervous system, and gain perspective. Stillness allows us to step back, observe our thoughts without judgment, and connect with a sense of inner peace that can carry us through life’s challenges.

On the Mat:

In your yoga practice, stillness can be found in the pauses between movements, the moments of breath awareness, and the grounding poses that anchor you in the present. By consciously embracing stillness on the mat, you cultivate a deeper awareness of your body and mind, allowing you to move with more intention and grace.

Off the Mat:

Stillness off the mat is just as important. It’s about finding moments of calm amidst the chaos of daily life—whether that’s through a quiet morning meditation, a mindful walk, or simply taking a few deep breaths before responding to a stressful situation. By integrating stillness into your daily routine, you create space for clarity, patience, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Self-Guided Meditation Practice:

To help you embrace stillness this September, we’ve created a simple self-guided meditation practice that takes 5 minutes or less. This practice can be done at any time of day—first thing in the morning, during a lunch break, or before bed.

Steps for Your Daily Meditation:

  1. Find Your Space: Choose a quiet spot where you won’t be disturbed. Sit comfortably, either on a chair or on the floor, with your spine straight and hands resting on your knees.

  1. Settle In: Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your mouth. Allow your breath to become natural, and begin to tune into the sensation of stillness within.

  1. Focus on the Mantra: Silently repeat the mantra, “I am still, I am calm, I am present.” Let the words resonate with each inhale and exhale, bringing your focus inward.

  1. Observe Without Judgment: As you breathe, notice any thoughts or feelings that arise. Acknowledge them without judgment, then gently bring your focus back to the mantra.

  1. Embrace Stillness: Spend the next few moments simply sitting in stillness, feeling the weight of your body, the rhythm of your breath, and the peace within you. When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes and take a deep breath before moving on with your day.

Self-Reflection Practice:

To deepen your experience, we encourage you to reflect on your meditation practice with our downloadable journal page. This page includes prompts designed to help you explore your relationship with stillness and how it impacts your life both on and off the mat.

Journal Prompts:

  1. Morning Reflection: Before beginning your day, take a moment to write about how you feel entering into this day. What does stillness mean to you today?

  1. Post-Meditation Check-In: After your meditation, jot down any thoughts or feelings that arose. How did focusing on the mantra make you feel? Did you notice any resistance to stillness?

  1. Evening Reflection: At the end of the day, reflect on how you experienced stillness off the mat. Were there moments when you felt especially calm or centered? What challenges did you encounter in maintaining this stillness?

  1. Weekly Summary: At the end of each week, review your journal entries. How has your perception of stillness evolved throughout the week? What insights have you gained from this practice?

Download Your Journal Page:

To support your journey, we’ve created a beautiful journal page that you can download and print. This page includes the mantra, daily prompts, and space for your reflections.
